More people come to a marriage reading because of this one word than for any other reason. Usually someone has already said it to them, without explaining it.

Judged the standard way
Mangal dosha is about Mars — nothing else. The verdict is taken from your Lagna, which is the reckoning almost every astrologer uses, and almost certainly the one behind whatever you were told. Chapter 8 also reports Mars from your Moon and from Venus, the two confirmations many readers add, so you see the full picture. But a chart clean from the Lagna does not carry the dosha, and the report says that in its first line rather than burying it.

And what cancels it
The tradition recognises a long list of cancellations — Mars in its own sign or exalted, Jupiter joining or aspecting Mars, Mars in the seventh but in a benefic’s sign. Among the charts we have read that do carry the dosha, nearly two in three have at least one of them. The chapter names the ones that apply to you, explains what each one lightens, and gives you a plain grade: mild, moderate or strong.
One thing worth knowing before you read it. Mars lands in one of the six flagged houses in six cases out of twelve — so roughly half of all charts carry this dosha counted from the Lagna. That is arithmetic, not misfortune, and it is exactly why a bare yes tells you so little on its own. What matters is what offsets it and how far the confirmations reach. Across our own readings the heaviest grade turns out to be genuinely uncommon: barely one chart in seventy.

Nor will it call something Manglik that isn’t: pressure on your marriage from Saturn, the Sun or Ketu is real and is reported, but separately and under its own name.

Why one chart says this much
A personalised opening letter naming your Lagna, your 7th house and its lord, and your current Mahadasha — and setting out honestly what a single chart can and cannot tell you about marriage. It establishes the register of the whole report: indications and likelihoods, never promises, never a date, never a named person.
The foundation. Your 7th house — its sign, its lord and where that lord sits, the planets that occupy it and the planets that aspect it. Everything after this chapter refers back to it. If your 7th house is empty, the chapter explains why that is entirely normal and reads the house through its lord instead.
The two planets the tradition holds responsible for marriage, read with their sign, house, dignity and Shadbala strength. Jupiter is the primary significator of the husband in a woman’s chart and Venus of the wife in a man’s — the chapter applies the rule that fits your chart and reads that planet in depth.
The D9 Navamsa is the divisional chart of marriage — where a promise made in the main chart is either confirmed or quietly withdrawn. Your D9 Lagna, the 7th house of the D9, where Venus and Jupiter land there, and any vargottama placement. This chapter says explicitly whether it agrees with chapter 1.
The darakaraka — the planet at the lowest degree in your chart — carries the karmic signature of the spouse: temperament, disposition, and the lesson the marriage brings. Read alongside the Dara Pada (A7), which shows how the marriage and the partner are perceived by family and community, and where that image differs from the lived reality.
The Upapada Lagna is the classical pada of the spouse and the marriage: family background, standing, and the field of work classically associated with its lord. The 2nd house from it speaks to the durability of the bond. The most speculative chapter in the report, and written as such — indications and types, never a real individual.
Your 7th lord’s sign gives a compass direction measured from your birthplace; whether that sign is movable, fixed or dual gives the classical distance reading — far, near or middling. Cross-checked against the Navamsa, and closed with an honest paragraph on how much weight this deserves. Which is: some, not much.
Links between your 5th, 7th and 9th lords, and any Venus–Rahu contact. A 5th–7th link favours a love match; a 7th–9th link favours a family-arranged one; both present is the love-then-approval hybrid now most common in India. The chapter says which way your chart leans and how strongly — and treats both routes as equally good ones.
Your Manglik status, stated plainly in the first line. If the dosha is present: its severity, the classical cancellations that apply to your chart, and what it actually means for your marriage — proportion before consequence, always. If it is absent, you are told so warmly and immediately.
Your Vimshottari dasha tree, filtered to the periods that classically activate marriage — those of your 7th lord, your 2nd and 11th lords, and Venus and Jupiter — with their actual date ranges, ranked strongest first. Where the marriage yogas in your chart activate inside one of those windows, the chapter names the overlap.
If chapter 9 gives the season, this gives the weather inside it. Jupiter and Saturn moving over your 7th house, your 7th lord and Venus across the next twelve months, read from both your Lagna and your Moon. Given as month-level windows, never as exact dates — and the chapter is explicit about why that is the honest precision.
Your 12th house, Rahu’s placement and whether your 7th lord sits in a movable sign — the classical combination for a partner from another region or country. If your chart leans local instead, the chapter says so plainly; that is a real answer, not a failure to find something.

No, and you should be wary of anything that claims to. The report gives ranked dasha periods with real date ranges, and transit windows at month-level precision. That is the honest resolution of the underlying calculation — the transit data is quarterly-sampled, so a claimed exact day would be false precision. What you get is where the likelihood concentrates.

Roughly half of all charts carry the dosha counted from the Lagna, which is simply how the arithmetic falls; of the charts that do, nearly two in three carry a classical cancellation. What actually matters is the grade and the cancellations, and that is exactly what you get, with a calm explanation of what it means in practice.
Hold them lightly. Chapters 4, 5 and 6 apply classical rules — darakaraka, upapada, the 7th lord’s sign — to describe a temperament, a background and a direction. They are genuine jyotisha, and they are inference about a person you have not met. The report hedges them throughout for exactly that reason, and chapter 6 says outright that you should not narrow your search on the strength of it.

But the spouse-description and timing chapters are written for someone not yet married, so roughly half the report will be looking backwards for you.
